The new garage!
As the title suggests, the last part of this garage finishing project included purchasing, assembling and installing storage cabinets. As I’ve said before, I do not like anything ‘stored’ on the floor, I’m not a big fan of open shelves either, cabinets are a must for me.
I considered many cabinets from Home Depot, Lowes, online stores and even Craigslist. Most of them were either not available, too big or too small, no drawers or way too expensive for what I wanted. I still ended up paying a lot more than I wanted for the Kobalt metal cabinets available at Lowes.
The good part about these ‘higher quality’ metal cabinets and part of the reason why I justified the purchase, is that at least in theory, they should last longer than other options, especially, because my plan is to take them with me if I ever move from the house.
I went with five freestanding cabinets, two 30 in x 72 in, three 30 in x 36 in, two with drawers and one without drawers and three 30 in x 30 in wall cabinets. Some of them may not be available anymore from what I’m seeing.

As you can see in the two images below, the cabinets were, as expected, delivered in a box, they had to be put together for installation. Lowes offered a ‘professional assembly’ service, but as you may expect from me, I decided to do it myself.

It was very easy to put them together, it took about 10 or 15 minutes each, so in less than two hours I was ready to install them.

For several reasons, the most important of all being space, I decided to install the cabinets on the left wall.

I started by installing the two 30 x 72-inch ones and the three 30 x 36-inch in the middle, before proceeding to install the 30 x 30-inch ones on the wall.

With these in place, it was time to celebrate the culmination of my Garage Finishing Project, many hours of work later, it was finally time to enjoy my new garage!
